Greubel Forsey Balancier S
When you think of the word "sport" in the world of swiss replica watches, what comes to mind? Perhaps a robust and durable oversized dive watch, or maybe the lightweight Richard Mille watch worn by a Grand Slam tennis champion? Until the end of last year, the rigorous, academic designs of Greubel Forsey, the watchmaker, were unlikely to appear on most people's lists of sports watches. However, their GMT Sport watch has surprised even those of us who thought we knew the brand inside and out.
It maintains exquisite watchmaking craftsmanship, features a 24-second tourbillon (naturally tilted), and a visually striking GMT system, but inside it uses a brand-new movement, paired with a domed titanium case, an oval sapphire crystal, and a rubber strap that fits perfectly on the wrist. This was a bold attempt for the Chaudefont workshop, but it seems to have been well-received by customers. Now, a second watch with a similarly domed design—the new "S" series—has been launched. Welcome to the Greubel Forsey Balancier S watch. This timepiece displays only the time, its highlights being the irregularly shaped, multifaceted dial and the signature 12.6mm balance wheel. The balance wheel is cleverly mounted at an angle, utilizing a 30° bevel on one of its facets, thus enhancing timekeeping accuracy—a hallmark of Gruber Forsy luxury replica watches. The depth of the dial within the case, and the extensive use of negative space in the watch's aesthetics, are reminiscent of Gruber Forsy's earlier "Invention Pieces" series.
Like the GMT Sport, the hour and minute hands are curved to fit the shape of the sapphire crystal and are mounted atop a skeletonized bridge. This bridge rises above the center of the dial, forming a grid for the watch's movement gears to climb. A power reserve indicator is located at 3 o'clock, next to the outline of the mainspring barrel with embossed lettering. The Balancier S watch features two coaxially connected mainspring barrels, providing a 72-hour power reserve.
The small seconds hand and balance wheel are located on the last facet of the dial. The balance wheel is relatively large, so much so that when it vibrates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, it protrudes beyond the edge of the facet, occupying a considerable amount of space between the dial and the sapphire crystal. Like the GMT Sport, the Balancier S watch uses a 45mm case (the same diameter and titanium material), but the new watch is more than 2mm thinner, and due to the lack of complex functions, the movement is also 3mm thinner, resulting in ample blank space on the dial, a stark contrast to the more compact internal structure of the GMT Sport.
Greubel Forsey movements are not typically designed for water resistance, but the Balancier S lives up to its sporty name, being water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters, more than enough for a swim in the owner's superyacht pool.
